Investigating organized crime in Mexico means facing threats, limited access to information and risks that affect both journalists and the communities whose stories they document. In a context also shaped by disinformation, practicing journalism requires adapting investigative methods, protecting sources and building relationships based on trust.
In «Nos tenemos» (We Have Each Other), ten journalists participating in the «Voices in Resilience: Journalism in the Face of Security Challenges in Mexico» Fellowship share their experiences, the issues they investigate and the challenges they face in their daily work. Their testimonies explore violence, safety, information verification and the importance of collaboration and support networks in sustaining journalism.
The series highlights the role of investigative journalism in documenting illicit economies, security challenges and community responses to organized crime.
This project is implemented by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) through its Resilience Fund and North America Illicit Economies Observatory.
