Director’s Message to the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice

Published on May 18, 2021

Following our contributions to the 14th UN Crime Congress in March, GI-TOC is  engaging in the CCPCJ, taking place from 17-21 May at the Vienna International Centre and online. We bring our global expertise and the local experiences of civil society to help further the debate and policymaking at the CCPCJ, as part of our contribution to developing more holistic and effective multilateral strategies against organized crime.

The CCPCJ and other UN processes are all important in improving policy responses and building state capacity to respond to organized crime. But it takes time, and ‘whole of society’ engagement for the positive effects to filter down to the community level. And it is at the community level where the needs are the most urgent and critical.
